About Me

Hi, I'm Harry

I’m a massive nerd based in the UK. I wanted to start this website as a place to put down my thoughts on technology. I was quite inspired by Jonathan Allens website dedicated to OS X Mavericks and want to do something similar but for Snow Leopard.

My main interests are old Macs, photography, digital privacy servers and networking. Which I will write about in the Article section. To be completely upfront, this website style was created using Claude but all the content and text you see is my own.

Snow Leopard

Now you may be asking “why on earth would you want to use snow leopard in 2026”. And, reader than is a great question, which I intend to answer. My main reason is that I strongly believe the aqua interface was a work of art – it’s hard to say if it’s just nostalgia and it’s because that’s what I grew up with but I think there’s something there.

Whenever I use a Mac with the aqua interface it’s a pleasure to use, everything felt intentional from a usability sense. There is no simplicity for the point of simplicity, the OS isn’t trying to hide scroll bars from you because some manager on the UX team at apple thinks they look ugly. The Finder has some colour in it – and no not the disaster that are themes on Mac OS Tahoe.

I’m choosing to go with Snow Leopard not because of the “greatest release” theory that lots of Apple fans have but more because of it’s design that was actually lost after this release. From 10.7 onwards the lovely aqua scroll bars and other aqua buttons were swapped out for more generic looking ones. My theory was if I wanted the proper aqua interface I’d have to go with Snow leopard.

This was a summary of my decision for Snow Leopard. I’ll go into more detail in articles about Applications I use and how I still get modern things done on this OS.

The Computer

The desktop I’m using is a Mid 2012 Mac Pro with a 6 core xeon processor. Technically this is post Snow Leopard support, but there are ways to make it run on this as the 2009 – 2012 Mac Pros are all quite similar. My laptop of choice is the Macbook Pro 2011 13” i7 2.7. It was the last laptop to come with Snow Leopard and has integrated intel graphics, which I desired since the dedicated graphics chips in the 15” and 17” have a tendency to kick the bucket.
